What is Stompers Rugby Club?

Stompers History

Stompers Rugby Club was established in 1995, making it one of the longest-standing rugby union clubs in Malta. After an early setback, the club was reformed in 1999 and won its first trophy in 2001 — the beginning of a competitive record that now spans two decades. A member of the Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU), Stompers competes in the Cisk League, the Knock-Out Cup, and the Ray Elliot Champions Cup each season. The Men's team fields over 40 registered players and trains twice weekly at St. Aloysius College Pitch in Birkirkara. The Women's team won silverware in their very first full season in the 2022/23 Women's 7s League. The Youth Academy brings children aged 6 to 12 into the sport. Across all three teams, Stompers is recognised as the friendliest and most inclusive rugby club in Malta, welcoming beginners, expats, and experienced players alike. See our trophy case.

The Stompers Experience

Joining Stompers Rugby Club means becoming part of a club with over 30 years of history in Maltese rugby. Whether you are a seasoned player looking for competitive rugby in Malta, an expat searching for a team sport and a social community, or a complete beginner who has never touched a rugby ball, Stompers welcomes players of every level. The club runs structured training sessions five nights a week across three squads: Men on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Women on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and Youth on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Experienced coaches lead each session, and the first few sessions are always free — no commitment required. Off the pitch, Stompers is known for a strong social culture built around the sport. It is one of the most active and inclusive rugby clubs affiliated with the Malta Rugby Football Union.
